ABOUT PROJECT
Project name: Photovoltaic system for electricity generation covering self-consumption in network operation SE-FER-005 – Faza 1
Manager: University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing
Total project value: 815.000,00 EUR
Grant amount: 693.000,00 EUR
Duration of project implementation: June 1, 2022 to April 30, 2024.
Financing: The project was financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) 2014-2021. with national co-financing from the Republic of Croatia within the "Energy and Climate Change" Program
The main goal of the project is to increase the use of technologies with lower carbon emissions by installing local electricity generation from a photovoltaic system (FN) supported by a battery storage (BS), on the roof/inside the building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), and thereby contribute to local, national and global fight against climate change. In addition to the main goal, the purpose of the project is to reduce the impact on the local power grid, reduce financial expenditures for FER electricity, educate and promote the importance and ways of integrating local FN and BS to the wider community, open the door to new research, and promote the possibilities of financing this project type from "Energy and Climate Change" program by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area, i.e. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. During the project duration the installation of new 631.9 kW (600 kW in converters) capacity photovoltaic power plants (in addition to the existing 84 kW) and appropriately sized battery storage is planed. Upon installation of the above, almost 850 MWh hours of renewable electricity will be produced locally, reducing CO emissions at FER2 by more than 140 tons, significantly reducing the impact on the electric power infrastructure (on average, the smaller peak rated power is 113 kW, while the reduced energy from the network in the peak tariff is 635 MWh) and reduce financial expenses for electricity for FER.
Through promotional, educational and research activities, FER will conduct several workshops and media announcements with the aim of strengthening awareness of climate change, the necessity of transforming the energy system into a low/zero carbon one, and the benefits of renewable sources, with a special emphasis on the importance of installations at the point of consumption. In addition to strengthening its own capacities for the management and promotion of renewable energy sources through the aforementioned activities, FER will contribute to the increase of the same capacities of the stakeholders of the project activities.
